Manhattanites Take Brooklyn Bars

unionhall%20packed.jpg
Gone are the days when a weekend night out on this side of the East River meant quiet conversation with friends, Time Out reports this week. Now, Manhattanites are actually commuting to our fair borough to party in Boerum Hill, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, and Williamsburg, making bars there just as crowded and loud as their East Village counterparts—even some spots in unlikely-seeming parts of those nabes, like Abilene on Court Street in "deep" Carroll Gardens. We agree that Union Hall is a mob scene lately (and often a touch frattier than we'd prefer), while on weekends our fave local haunt is more tightly packed than the Park Slope Co-Op after nursery school lets out. What does a Brooklynite have to do to get a relaxing place to meet up on a Saturday? (We know, we know: Stay in.)

Everyone knows Saturday nights are for amateurs anyway.

I don't believe it.

I do, its getting less and less difficult to convince my Manhattan friends to come out to Brooklyn for a night out.

*GASP*
Time Out is SO on top of things.
I never knew Williamsburg was trendy.
Journalism at its' finest.
Kudos to them for uncovering this hotter-than-hot, brand-spankin'-new cultural shift. I'd better buy a place in brooklyn before the rest of the city catches on and prices go up!

Brooklyn Social is a great bar. FloydNY is a fantastic bar. Union Hall is a magnificent bar, they've done a great job with it. Only issue there is that it feels like a little bit of Long Island right here in Brooklyn. That said, I hope the boys take that concept national ala Campo di Bocce.

Advice to avoid crowds? Drink on Wednesdays. That's why Mr. Dick Swizzle at Magnetic Field is my hero.

Long Island rules. Especially Baldwin and Rockville Centre.

Williamsburg Northside I can believe. Greenpoint Franklin Ave and Studio B, sure. But Park slope? Give me a break. The only people traveling for an hour from Manhattan to Park Slope are Slopers, or maybe someone who just fell asleep on the train. Nice try Time out. You guys must own property there.

An HOUR to Park Slope? Are you kidding me? It takes me 20 minutes on the 2/3.

Hey - An hour is a little over the mark, but a twenty minute commute is a fantasy. I love Park Slope. I hope I never have to leave. It's a truly beautiful neighborhood, but the commute is somewhat of a drag. Lets say 45-50 minutes door to door to be honest.

floyd is packed with awful meatheads and on weekends. otherwise i love it.

I like how everyone pretends this is the first time these things are happening. Guess what, if NYC (doesn't matter what borough (not counting SI)) has a cool bar, it doesn't matter, it will be packed on the weekends. It's been going on forever. Locals know to drink on Sundays or Tuesdays.

As far as the Slope is concerned, it's easier to get to from below 14th St, than it is from Chinatown to Williamsburg or for that matter Chinatown to the UES. It always will be. I've been out to the slope in about 15 minutes on the B from Broadway/Lafayette. On a weekend!

Well, it does help that I work downtown. 20 minutes for me! My wife, not so lucky.

Dude this story is SO 5 years ago.
The real story is about the Manhattanites taking the PATH to party in Hoboken and Jersey City.
Manhattan is SO over.

New York bars are popular?! and alot of people go to them!? forget a finger, Time Out has a fuckin crazy robot stethescope hand on the pulse of new york city!!!

Red Hook is still pretty much jackass-free on the weekends unlike the atrocious Smith St. you can still hang around decent human beings and pretty awesome locals at Sunny's, the Bait and Tackle and even Pioneer. Hopefully this summer won't change that.

Not on a weekend you haven't. the B doesn't run on the weekend
