Int'l Film Fest to Hit Borough Tomorrow

The 10-day Brooklyn International Film Festival kicks off tomorrow, and we're excited about this year's lineup. With the exception of the opening-night feature, Made in Brooklyn—a derivative-looking feel-good flick about the borough in the '80s that chronicles the lives of neighborhood goodfellas and "charming, low-end gangsters"—the U.S. offerings are appealing and offbeat. There's Arranged, another Brooklyn-based story about an Orthodox Jewish and a Muslim woman who are both going through arranged marriages; the comedy Slippery Slope, about a feminist filmmaker who secretly takes a job directing a porn film to make some extra cash; and Body/Antibody about an OCD Manhattanite who hasn't left his house in 10 months. International offerings—mostly shorts and documentaries—look even more experimental and interesting.
